Amhráin​ Aduaidh

Amhráin Aduaidh constitutes an exploration of the most iconic Ulster songs in Irish.  In this 3 part television series and 10 part online series, presenter, Brian Mullen, investigates these songs in detail, interviewing singers, musicians, academics, collectors and historians in an effort to reveal the meaning, history, importance and relevance of each song.

The cream of Northern singers feature in the series – Máiréad Ní Mhaonaigh, Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Maighréad Ní Dhomhnaill, Doimnic Mac Giolla Bhríde, Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin and many more.

Each programme concentrates on songs of a particular theme – love, emigration and revelry.

Visitors to the BBC website will be able to view a ten minute film on each song will be accompanied by a performance in its entirety along with the lyrics of each son.

Series producer, the late Bríd Maloney said, “This series is a joy for song, music and history enthusiasts alike.  It tells the stories of some of the best Northern songs in a fresh and unique way.  Even the most fanatical song lovers will learn something new from Amhráin Aduaidh”.
